Quick tidbit: Symbols

In my version of Microsoft Word there are 2 ways to insert the copyright, etc. symbol:

 

From the top menu, “Insert” then “Symbol” then choose the copyright symbol or select from a few dozen others (registered, trademark, etc.)

 

or (for a quick reference):

 

Ctl+Alt+C=©    Copyright

Ctl+Alt+R=®    Registered

Ctl+Alt+T=™    Trademark

 

**But warning**…if you hit Ctl+Alt and go through the entire keyboard…it DOES stuff to your computer  😯

 

For those unsure of what Ctl+Alt means, this is holding down the Ctrl (control) and Alt (Alternate) keys at the same time as the letter key mentioned above.

 

NOT to be confused with Ctl+Alt+Del which will pull up your Windows Task Manager.

Track Changes and Comments

 

The “official” Microsoft Word 2003 version:

 

Track changes while you edit

Open the document you want to revise. On the Tools menu, click Track Changes. When the Track Changes feature is enabled, TRK appears on the status bar (status bar: A horizontal bar at the bottom of the screen that displays information about the current condition of the program, such as the status of items in the window, the progress of the current task, or information about the selected item.) at the bottom of your document. When you turn off change tracking, TRK is dimmed.

This is a quick rundown on track changes and comments. (This works on Word 2000 & 2003 that I know of; if you have an older version of Word this may not apply)

 

 

When you have a word doc open, up at the top section where the font info and justifications are, there should be a set of boxes that look like:

 

 

This is the reviewing pane (with the track changes and whatnot—if you don’t see it there are **instructions below to open it).

The symbol/box that has the orange little star looking square in the top left corner and something that looks like a pencil across the bottom right corner (second symbol from right) is the track changes box. You click on it to turn it on or off.
