I have to tell you, even though I live in Texas (Fort Worth) I was glued to the TV last night and again this morning with all the Hurricane Sandy coverage. I have family (most of my dad’s—I’d guess 50+ first, second and third cousins and a dozen immediate family members) who live in New Jersey. My cousin and her family live right on the beach In NJ. She bundled up her kiddos and headed to my aunt’s house that’s a smidge—but not by much—further inland. The last I heard from them, thanks to Facebook, they were fairing okay, though I took it the house wasn’t doing so well.
It’s crazy to think that such a big storm could hit such a populated area. Crazier I guess is that it doesn’t happen more often—no I am so not wishing more storms on the east coast, just saying… Times like this do bring out the best in people though. Helping out friends and family. Helping out strangers as people are getting stranded and need help.
It also brings out the boneheads. Those that are jumping in the back of the newscasters’ spots as they are trying to warm folks *away* from areas. And then the straight up malicious boneheads. The taxis price-gouging. People taking advantage of the situation. Not to mention, I saw something this morning that folks were posting pics from movies or flat out photo-shopped pics depicting the storm. That’s pretty damn crappy. The storm itself is bad enough as it is, but to then have people trying to create a bigger panic or think it’s funny…people need to grow up.
As it is, I hope and pray that family and friends are doing well today and it that it clears up as soon as possible, people can get out and about and start cleaning up.
indeed, water is so powerful and destructive. Glad your family is doing okay. My brother bailed out his basement on the hour last night. No power to run his pump. My Dad in PA has no power. Sister in DE kept power and the roof’s on. She said birds were chirping this morning.
